DIGICEL paused from its busy telecommunications services on Monday, June 21, to devote several hours looking at the health and wellness of its employees.

The company’s corporate office, at George Hill, was a scene of much activity. The event was a health and wellness fair which occupied the conference room and other business sections of the building. The fair was a joint effort involving DIGICEL and various personnel from the Health Authority of Anguilla.

DIGICEL’s Marketing Manager, Roxanne Webster, spoke about the fair. “We care about the wellbeing and health of our team,” she stated. “Our team work extraordinarily hard. They are considered to be essential workers, as well, so they have been working throughout COVID- 19. We also know that the health team have been working vigorously too, so we made an appointment with them to have a health and wellness day here at our office. In addition, we have included a number of other persons. The fact is that we just want to take care of our staff. As it is said, ‘your health is your wealth, and we are very happy to have partnered with the health team including Jennifer Gumbs, the Senior Health Educator – our main point of contact. And, of course, this fabulous day was made possible by our General Manager, and her assistant.”

Ms. Webster continued: “We are also happy to extend these opportunities of getting your blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and so any other services checked. Your health is important and we are taking care of our workers first.”

Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs commented: “On behalf of the Health Authority of Anguilla, I must say that it was a privilege to work with Shelda Lewis, a representative of DIGICEL, to organise this fair for the company’s staff. It shows that DIGICEL cares a lot about the wellbeing of its staff. The services we are offering at the health and wellness fair also include physiotherapy, foot care, massages, mental and dental health. It is really a privilege to see the staff utilising the services of the Health Authority of Anguilla.” Mrs. Gumbs added that a number of other companies had also been taking care of the health and wellness of their employees.

Among the health team who delivered services at the fair were: physiotherapists Khalidah Banks and Carolyn George; Mrs. Vernice Battick and Ms. Robertha Campbell of the Department of Health Protection and Nutrition; Physician Dr. Robyn Perkins-Kentish; Mr. Joseph Pradel, a noted therapist; and other senior health workers.

DIGICEL’s General Manager, Mrs. Anne Parles, was pleased with the health and wellness fair for the company’s staff – and was grateful to the Health Authority’s personnel for their voluntary services.
