The name, Valarie Agneta Hodge, will long remain etched on the memory of those in Anguilla and abroad who knew and admired her during her multi-faceted life.
A resident of North Side, she was born on November 30, 1954, and passed away on February 18, 2021, causing much grief along the many paths of life and endeavours where she met family, friends, co-workers and the general Anguillian public.
She served as a Teacher for many years, having successfully educated herself abroad at diploma and degree levels; and in recent years she was employed as Deputy Director, Human Resources, in the Department of Public Administration.
She had a great love f
or the performing arts – serving as a member of the Anguilla Choral Circle and later of the Mayoumba Folkloric Theatre. Even at the Service of Thanksgiving for her life at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, on March 27, 2021, she wore the familiar and colourful attire of the Folkloric Theatre Group. She was an early morning singer at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary and was also an avid sportswoman in various sporting disciplines.
Like the farewell event held for her by the Ministry and Department of Education on March 26, the Service of Thanksgiving was replete with tributes and fond memories – all attesting to the gracious and loving person Ms. Valarie Agneta Hodge was.
The Thanksgiving Service was conducted by the Rt. Rev. Errol Brooks, who praised the deceased for her singing performances at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary; and Rev. Raliville Christian, the Assistant Priest.
The patriotic Anguillian was laid to rest at St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery.
