The Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Kenneth Hodge, whose Ministry is closely connected with various matters relating to the lives of the people of Anguilla, gave a statement to The Anguillian newspaper, following the first reading of the GST Bill, on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. This is what he said:
“I just want to thank each and every one of those 1,400 persons [who signed the petitions]. I know that there are quite a lot more who were sharing similar sentiments.
“It is important that we encourage persons to share their concerns, their comments and views because, as the Premier would have said, this is helping to shape the direction in which we will move.
“Certainly, as part of a responsible administration, I continue to welcome public participation in this process and, indeed, we have been meeting over the past weeks and months with persons. That is going to continue, and I want to encourage persons to maintain an active role in this process because we are working together to shape this country for the better.”
Minister Hodge has been organising and leading the public consultations not only on the GST Bill, but on other pieces of draft legislation before the Anguilla House of Assembly.
