The Easter Season, particularly the Easter Monday holiday, is likely to see a number of colourful kites flying over various locations of Anguilla. But while there is much fun in making them, one person is also getting some money for supplying them.
“I am selling some kites,” Manuel Boyd, proudly said, showing off one of his creations, as he took up a conspicuous location on the grounds of the People’s Market. “They going reasonable and locally made with my own hands.
“I have different sizes. I got some for 8 US; 12 US; and 18 US. Whatever style and colour you want, we have it. I am making and selling the kites to make the children happy – and so that everybody can see beautiful things when they look up in the sky.”
Manuel is normally at the People’s Market at weekends selling his kites. He can also be contacted at his residence – off the Cauls Pond/Reuben Hodge Road, opposite ‘Happy Crew Bar’.
Kite-flying in Anguilla has been a long and delightful pastime. There are, however, some stipulations. These include prohibitions to fly kites in the vicinity of the airport; along the route of aircraft; and near high-tension electricity poles and cables.
Persons flying kites are encouraged to do so in certain designated and safe areas, as will be explained later by airport and ANGLEC personnel.
