The Anguillian newspaper was invited to witness and record the COVID-19 vaccinations administered to employees at Four Seasons Resort and Residences, Anguilla.
The AstraZeneca vaccinations were administered by Nurses from the Princess Alexandra Hospital who travelled to the hotel property on Wednesday and Thursday, February 24 and 25, for that purpose. The vaccine was taken by both employees from across the various departments of the resort and members of the Executive Committee.
Four Seasons’ Anguilla General Manager, Mr. Diego Angarita, spoke to the newspaper about the vaccinations. The conversation on Wednesday went as follows:
Please say what is happening here today?
We are fortunate enough to have the gift of getting the vaccine here at the Four Seasons. We are very excited and look forward to having a large number of our employees participating today and tomorrow.
Can you kindly provide the number of employees taking the vaccine?
We don’t know the numbers right now but, as you can see, there is a long line already. We are receiving the vaccinations in two days, depending on the schedules of our people.
How important do you see this treatment for Four Seasons’ employees?
It is crucial because not only is it for the health of the island, but for the economy of the island. As we know, the hotel depends on how healthy the island is – and the economy is.
How willing have the employees been in coming forward for the vaccine?
They are very excited about it, as you can see by the line today – and by the number of people signing up. Many people, who couldn’t wait, went and took it already at the hospital. So I believe we are going to have a very large percentage of our employees taking the vaccine.
How about guest arrivals during this difficult period?
The occupancy is beginning to improve a little bit but, obviously, we need more steps to be able to get to the point we were – like in 2019 – and this is the first step to get back to that occupancy.
Thank you.
You are welcome.
It is understood that the employees and management personnel at other tourism properties in Anguilla have already been vaccinated and others are to follow.
Plans are in hand that when the Western Polyclinic, at South Hill, is opened shortly it will serve as a site for administering the vaccine to employees of the smaller properties – as well as other residents.
Meanwhile, increasing numbers of persons from the general citizenry are turning up at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for the vaccinations.
