Monday, 25th January 2021 — In this fourth and final segment of my mini-series writing commentaries on our relationships with people, I will address the most important relationship that each human being has. That is the one with the inner self. It is connected to the Highest Self whom the Divine has created for all of humanity in Jah’s Creation.
Most of us spend our lifetimes not really knowing who we are deep inside. We portray various roles and put on masks assuming identities that are not truly ours to wear. Do we even attempt to engage in exploring the divinity of our souls or how we interact with everyone and everything in the universe? Unless we delve deeper into enlightenment and spiritual practices, we may never come to know who we truly are in these earthly forms.
In Mark 12:30-31 (KJV) the scripture says, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
Now some persons are nonbelievers and have no belief in God, Allah, Great Spirit, Jehovah Jireh or whatever name we choose to call the Creator of this great, vast and divine universe. It includes so many planetary systems other than our own, the stars in the sky, the sun and the moon, the seas and the rivers, oceans wide.
All of the Most-High’s creatures, vegetation, dirt and dust have an existence because of a powerful source of energy, which we are neither able to see or truly able to prove exists other than by our faith. Not even the scientists’ tests can dispute that there is a mystery to how we all, and every other being, were created.
Whether or not we believe in the Creation Story or a Higher Being, God, there is one person whom we must have belief in and that is the inner self. All of us have this self. It is inside the core of our being. Our personalities, traits and habits are merely the outer shell of who we are. They are initially formed before birth and develop after we are born.
We cannot necessarily dictate the circumstances of our lives, such as parentage and into which families we are birthed, nor aspects like height, weight, colour of our eyes and pigmentation, length of fingers and feet, size of our noses, colouring and texture of our hair. All of these characteristics and conditions are determined by unknown factors. Neither are we able to determine if we are pro-created from a mother and father who love one another.
How the mother feels about herself and the foetus in her womb impacts a child’s life tremendously. If we as babies are conceived with an abundance of love from our conceptions, as I know I was, then we thrive in our lives. Otherwise, we struggle to love ourselves and to accept love from others.
When we learn to love ourselves unconditionally as God loves us, then we have the capability to live fulfilled and are encircled with an abundance of overflowing goodness, mercy, grace and loving kindness. We’re able to maintain love within our souls. Nevertheless, if we are born out of hatred, rape, incest, or some other violent act, then we have to work diligently to overcome this distress.
I was born of a father who was kind, gentle, generous, gracious, filled with love. My mother is equally the same – though she has her ways of wanting to control her children. On the day that she gave birth to me, my family in America was celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. So, I have always joked and said, “I am a real, live turkey-baby.” I certainly was a beautiful, infant girl whom parents and older brother adored. I was blessed to be born into the Clan of Fergus.
Nonetheless, I have had my own struggles to truly love myself. That is because of the harm done to me by other humans. Yet my soul was determined to overcome these adversities and brilliantly shine the love and light of God that resonate in and through me. May we all do the same.
