Scenes at Curtis Love Headquarters

Schoolchildren at the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, residents of District 6 (Road South), and members of the public travelling through the area, were the recipients of some much-needed assistance on Friday, February 12.

The assistance was provided by well-known philanthropist, and former district elected representative, Mr. Curtis Richardson, who served as Minister of Infrastructure from 2015-2020.

Mr Curtis Richardson with supplies of water

Known as “Curtis Love”, Mr. Richardson delivered large quantities of water and juice to the schoolchildren during the morning hours. In the afternoon the courtyard of his ‘senator’s office’, at Blowing Point, and the immediate section of the main road, were scenes of much activity as large numbers of persons converged there. Cases of water and juice, as well as coupons for gasoline and groceries, were distributed by Mr. Richardson and members of his team. Musical entertainment was also part of the event at his “Curtis Love” headquarters.

Commenting on the events at the school, and at his office compound, Mr. Richardson said:

“I wanted to bless the people of Anguilla. I know they have been through the COVID from 2020 – and through Hurricane Irma in 2017 – and I wanted to bless them in some way. This is my way of giving back to the people of Anguilla.

“I gave every child at the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School water and juice. I gave out about thirteen US thousand dollars in food vouchers – at fifty dollars each; and another nine thousand dollars in water and juice.

“I just wanted people to be blessed and to know that others care and are willing to give. People came from all over the island – and I thank them for coming out. Everything was done orderly and I am happy with the turnout.

“I love the people in Blowing Point because it is there I am from. I was born there and most of what I was given as a young man growing up was from this village. So I am always happy to pour in to the people of Blowing Point. But there are a lot of other people in Anguilla who also blessed my family – and I wanted to give back to them, throughout the island, as well.”

He added: “I did not plan it for the beginning of the year, but God would have it that everything came together very good. I got a lot of financial support. I put in some of my own support and this is the result.”

Meanwhile, a number of persons openly expressed thanks and appreciation to Mr. Richardson for his benevolence. Among them was Johnny Lloyd (The Mighty Springer), a celebrated singer, entertainer and calypso winner, from Blowing Point.

“I think it is a wonderful thing that somebody can come up with an idea like this to help the entire island in these really tough times”, Springer said. “I think it was a great initiative by Mr. Love. It is very special and he is from here in Blowing Point.”
