The numbers of COVID-19 vaccinations in Anguilla are climbing each day, with more and more residents registering, and appearing at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for the initial preventative treatment.
The vaccinations began on February 5, one day after 8,000 doses arrived in Anguilla from the United Kingdom Government. While the most recent figures showed over 1,300 persons have been injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine, with over 4,000 registrations, those statistics have reportedly increased well beyond the previous statistics.
While the long lines of persons have thinned down at the hospital for the time being, the vaccine teams are also being deployed at a number of hotels with onsite vaccinations for employees.
A second supply of the vaccine – up to 7,500 doses – will be arriving in Anguilla, in due course, to cover the some 15,000 persons living on the island. There are still a number of residents who remain to be vaccinated – and who are being encouraged to do so.
Anguilla is fortunate not to have any known cases of community spread of the virus. There have been reports of a number of breaches of the quarantine restrictions and protocols – on the island – which are officially being condemned, and there are penalties in place for offending persons. The offenders are advised to obey the restrictions and protocols – as plans continue to fully reopen the island when 70% or higher vaccination coverage is achieved.
