Following the rededication of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, at Island Harbour, on Sunday, February 14, The Anguillian newspaper gleaned congratulatory comments from a number of persons who attended the event. Those comments were as follows:

Governor Dileeni Selvaratnam

Governor Dileeni Selvaratnam:

I think it is a blessed day for the church. It is the centre of the community and it was an incredibly moving and peaceful service.

It is a beautiful edifice. God’s blessings and mercies have been good to us. I am so happy that St. Andrew’s Church was restored. This church has served as a foundation in this village of Island Harbour and District 1. My forefathers and foremothers grew up in this church – and it is a blessing to see it restored even more magnificent than it was. I hope that it will continue to provide a sanctuary and a place of fellowship for many as we continue to occupy it until Jesus comes.

Ms. Palmavon Webster, former District 1 Representative:

I am so proud. I think, as the Bishop described it, it is one of the most incredible achievements for the district. What I liked especially about the service was how we lifted up the community to the honour and glory of God – and how we went back to our ancestors who made that first sacrifice of giving the land, and all of them laying the blocks for the church building. I have now seen so much commitment in terms of people doing the same thing with the community coming forward. I think it heralds a wonderful time for our community – and the church as a whole.

Pastor Philip Gumbs, Chairman, Evangelical Association:

Pastor Philip Gumbs

I find it to be very commendable. It shows vision and perseverance, as Bishop Brooks said. It was so important to stick to the highest ideal which was not just to patch up St. Andrew’s Church building, but to put it to a level at which it had never been before. The edifice speaks well of the Island Harbour community – and the worship of our Saviour and Christ. I am very pleased and impressed with what has been achieved, and I wish the church community all the best.

Pastor Gareth Hodge

Pastor Gareth Hodge, Hilltop Baptist Church:

It is good to be here for there dedication of St. Andrew’s Church. The land was originally given by my grandfather and his family, and the church was built by my father and his workmen. It is good to see it restored to its original beauty.
