Thirty-one (31) Graduands from Anguilla were among some 8,500 members of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Class of 2020 who officially graduated and received their degrees during the 2020 Virtual Graduation Ceremonies this week.
Eight (8) of the Anguilla Graduants received Postgraduate degrees. Among them was Dr. Michelle Queeley who has the distinction of being the first UWI Open Campus Anguilla student to earn a doctoral degree. Dr. Queeley will graduate with high commendation. Jameel Rochester, Delta Hodge, Leah Hughes, Rebecca Haskins, Vanessa Croft-Thompson and Sara Haynes-Cousins received Masters degrees in Management Studies, Education, Instructional Design and Technology, while Cherise Gumbs was awarded the Graduate Diploma in Management & Educational Leadership.
Of the twenty-three (23) receiving undergraduate degrees, 18 were from the Open Campus: three (3) from Mona, one (1) from Cave Hill and (1) from St. Augustine.
Audrey Richardson, Jervin Gumbs, Molissa Romney, Cherrydelle Cunningham-Coombs, Esther Ward, Tomasha Connor, Esther Alcindor, Shaneshah Ritchie-Brooks, Codisha Webster, Nicola Webster, Christina Whyte, Claricia Telemacque-Gumbs, Estelle Laurent-Carter, Leonise Francis, Carol Richardson, Cenita Liddie, Violet Gumbs, Alicia Allen, Telica Mussington, Sari Lee Benjamin, Angella Sutherland, Talyjah Hyatt and Isabel Rosario Del Rosario received degrees in Accounting, Management/Business Studies, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Education, Social Work, Youth Development Work, Engineering and Agriculture.
Four (4) of the Masters Graduants received distinctions and eleven (11) of the undergraduates will graduate with First Class Honours.
Due to the pandemic all the UWI 2020 Graduation ceremonies are being conducted virtually. The Open Campus Ceremony was slated for Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.. The general public was invited to share in the celebration of the Graduands via live stream on UWItv at www.uwitv.org, as well as on the UWI Facebook pages and FLOW cable networks across the Caribbean.
During the Open Campus Ceremony on Wednesday, the University also confered Honorary Doctorate Degrees on His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Dr. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds of St. Kitts and Nevis and Mr. Franklyn McIntosh of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sir Kennedy delivered the keynote address at the Graduation.
