Anguillian national, Mr. Kevin Carty, has been promoted to the post of Resident Manager at Belmond Cap Juluca.

The well-known and highly-experienced senior hospitality worker formerly performed the duties of Belmond Host at Cap Juluca. He was responsible for the Villa Host Programme, a new feature introduced by Belmond in Anguilla. “It is a Butler Programme where each room is assigned a butler to ensure that everything goes well,” he explained.

Mr. Carty said he was delighted with his new Resident Manager appointment. “There is a lot more responsibility, but it is a team effort; and a burden shared is a burden helped so it is a lot of people doing a lot of things. I really don’t see it as burdensome. I would say there is more joy in it than anything else.”

Commenting on Mr. Carty’s appointment, General Manager, Mr. Tiago Sarmento, said: “I could not be more proud than having Kevin as our Resident Manager. He has shown, since Belmond put its first foot here three years ago, that he is more than capable to do an amazing job – and he has been doing an amazing job. The first big project was to implement the Villa Host Programme which is something of an extremely high level of responsibility, strategy and execution, and Kevin did that extremely well. This promotion is more than deserving for him. I am just so proud and honoured that it was the right decision to take at the time. I thank Kevin for taking on the challenge and for continuously making Cap Juluca a better place.”

Replying, Mr. Carty said: “You have to also look at Tiago’s influence. He is always trying to create the best A-team possible. It is all about productivity.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Carty commented on guest services being provided by the resort. “The amazing thing is that Cap Juluca is a property that has had the same guests repeated for 20/30 years. Since Tiago came here, it is the first time we had up to 80 percent occupancy with almost 100 brand new guests – so we are doing a great job attracting new clientele and the next generation of clientele.

“It is not so much that we are dependent on repeat guests, although we are happy to have them. It is that we branched out a little bit and Tiago, with a strong sales background, has been very instrumental in taking Cap Juluca to the next level.”
