The Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism, Mr. Haydn Hughes, has given an update on the planned new Valley Main Road and the sale of Cuisinart Golf Resort and the Reef by CuisinArt.
He was at the time speaking to The Anguillian newspaper following the handing over of the new classroom-block at the Orealia Kelly Primary School, on Tuesday, December 8.
“We are very excited that we have already commenced the surveying of the Carter Rey Boulevard, that is called The Valley Main Road,” he began. “Richard’s Architecture and Surveying Company started the surveying of that road last week. We are right now looking at the engineering and designing work, and we are hopefully optimistic that we can actually start that road sometime in 2021. I know it is presumptuous to assume dates but it is looking extremely positive, right now, as we move to resurfacing the airport runway. It is looking very, very promising at this time, and we are cautiously excited about finally doing the re-development of that piece of critical infrastructure of Anguilla.”
Asked about the cost of that road, Minister Hughes replied: “We are looking at a cost of 6.5 million dollars or more. That is because we will be doing drains, sidewalks etc. We will really make it nice so that it can be there for the next forty, fifty years.”
Speaking in his capacity as Minister of Tourism, Mr. Hughes made the following disclosure: “We are right now negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding with the possible new owners of the CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa and the Reef Hotel. The Minister of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance and the entire Cabinet have been in discussions – and we are very close to finalising a Memorandum of Understanding. It will be a restart for that particular resort. We believe that the [coming] operator and owners are of the highest esteem – and will bring a lot to Anguilla and its development.”
The Anguillian remarked to Minister Hughes: “You appear to be very excited.”
He replied: “Yes, I am excited. More than that is happening, but I don’t want to talk about it just yet.”
