The University of The West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla has rolled out its highly anticipated Diplomacy and Protocol course beginning the week of November 16, 2020. Understanding protocol and exercising diplomacy in personal and business dealings are powerful and practical tools. Knowing how to conduct one’s self not only makes you more confident. It provides you with the tools for creating productive business and professional relationships.
This course that will be taught by Mrs. Rosena Brooks, a retired teacher, but still a current educator, covers and goes beyond the basic principles of Business Etiquette, Image Management, Dealing with the Press, Ceremonial Behaviours, Etiquette at the table and Gift Giving, among others.
Manager of the British Overseas Territories Open Campus Sites, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, believes that this course, “Diplomacy and Protocol can enhance persons’ interaction skills. It will heighten awareness of what is expected of us in varying situations. It looks at all aspects of a person’s professional image. The course is comprehensive and will certainly be an asset to all who take it.”
Mrs. Brooks, the course facilitator, emphasised the need for such a course and was quoted as saying, “We need to teach persons, especially our young men and women, how to perfect their personal brand by equipping them with the tools to refine their social graces, confidence and etiquette knowledge. Participants will learn how to develop and sharpen their knowledge of protocol and diplomacy.”
The course is designed for persons interested in diplomacy, persons who want to become versed with the various applications of etiquette rules, with tips and tactics that will give a competitive edge in a world where collaborating across diverse teams is critical to success. This course will move persons beyond the basic aspects of business etiquette to cultivate a level of personal leadership skills necessary for success in civilian, business, and various career settings.
