The Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, at George Hill, Anguilla, has just observed its 44th Anniversary. The Church is under the leadership of Pastor John Gumbs.
He was trained in Theology at the Blue Water Bible School in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, and shortly afterwards established the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Anguilla. He is the longest religious broadcaster on a Radio Anguilla – an outreach service he undertook as part of his ministry.
In the past, he and his growing congregation have brought in a number of regional and international guest speakers for the anniversary observances and a week of revival services.
This time, and probably due to the difficulties of travel, caused by Covid-19, Pastor John invited Pastor David Christmas of Faith Baptist Church, at Mount Fortune, to be the guest speaker. In delivering his sermon on Sunday, October 25, Pastor Christmas took the opportunity to commend Pastor John for his long ministry in Anguilla – and for his contribution to the spiritual and religious lives of the people of the island.
Among the congregation were two other Anguillian Ministers: Pastor Cecil Richardson of the Outreach Baptist Church, on the Water Swamp Road, and Pastor Dwayne Adams of the Central Baptist Church, at Rey Hill.
