The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Anguilla Social Security Board have been highly congratulated for their work on the island.
The commendation came from the Coordinator of the work – of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Anguilla, Pastor Howard Simon. He was at the time delivering the sermon at the Mount Fortune Church on Saturday, October 31. The event was a church service marking the 40th Anniversary of Social Security, and part of a week of activities.
Those in attendance included Premier Dr. Ellis Webster who has responsibility for Social Security; the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Kenneth Hodge; the Director of Social Security, Mr. Timothy Hodge; and other personnel of the statutory body.
Pastor Simon said in part: “We want to congratulate you on your Fortieth Anniversary and we pray that you will continue to be a strong statutory body that will make a powerful difference in the lives of the people of this great island of Anguilla…We pray God’s blessings upon this Church, Social Security, the Government and Anguilla – and that, as people come into this island, God will continue to protect us…He has done wonderful things for us. We are one of the few nations that only had three cases of COVID, and we have now been free of the virus for a long time. We recognise that this has only been possible because of God – and we praise Him for his goodness to us.”
Earlier, the Pastor invited Mr. Timothy Hodge to address the congregation.
The Director stated partly: “It is the week in which the 3rd of November falls – and on that day the Social Security Act was signed into law which is the foundation of the Social Security system in Anguilla. We are actually celebrating the Fortieth Anniversary of the passage of the Act which was introduced in the House of Assembly by the Father of the Nation, the Honourable James Ronald Webster.
“The actual Fortieth Anniversary of the introduction of Social Security comes in just over a year’s time, on the first of January 2022, and it is a pleasure to be at this Church Service. Our Social Security theme this year is: ‘Forty years after the Act, we are Secure. That’s a Fact’.”
During the service, members of the church presented bags with gifts to the Social Security staff, Premier Webster and the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Kenneth Hodge. Pastor Simon personally presented a book entitled “Excellence 101’’ to Premier Webster and Director of Social Security, Mr. Hodge.
