Leon’s at Meads Bay, owned by Malliouhana an Auberge Resort and situated on the Meads Bay Beach, is the first of the hotel-based restaurants in Anguilla to announce its grand reopening. Leon’s re-opened its doors to the public on Friday, November 13th, and welcomed a large number of customers which included locals and tourists who had completed their quarantine period. To celebrate the reopening there was a $5 rum punch special – and entertainment by DJ Sparta.
Mrs. Cherecia Lewis Rogers, Malliouhana’s Marketing, Experiences and Sales Coordinator, told The Anguillian: “In light of the reduced tourist activity on the island, Leon’s will be open only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 12 pm to 9 pm, until it is deemed feasible to open the entire week. Presently, it is open to residents of Anguilla and guests who have completed the required 14 day quarantine.”
Mrs. Lewis Rogers continued: “We have a varied menu which includes items such as crispy conch, rum glazed chicken wings, mahi ceviches, johnny dogs and, of course, our signature johnny cake burgers which have been a favourite among locals and tourists alike.” She further stated that, “we are also excitedly anticipating the opening of Malliouhana on December 17th and we look forward to welcoming guests to the resort.”
When asked about operating in this Covid-19 time, she replied: “While Covid-19 has produced some challenges, it has propelled us to become even more creative – allowing us to develop innovative ideas that will allow us to create a heightened experience for our guests, while maintaining a safe and healthy environment.” She went on: “We are pleased with the turnout tonight, and we are working diligently on enhancing a number of features at Leon’s such as an expanded play area, additional entertainment and service improvements to ensure that our customers’ experience at Leon’s is second to none.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Haydn Hughes, Minister of Tourism, who was among the Anguillian guests at Leon’s commented: “I am very happy that Leon’s here at Malliouhana is reopened and, as you can see, there is a pretty good turnout of locals and persons who have completed their quarantine period. Leon’s is outside the bubble and will be welcoming all persons who have completed quarantine – as well as locals. I am very excited that after Anguilla was closed for so many months, we now have places to go, and this is one of the fixtures at Meads Bay for this. We are very happy that they have decided to reopen.”
