Tuesday, 17th November 2020 — This morning, the phrase “In this world, but not of it”, popped into my mind. It’s how I’ve been feeling since this pandemic spread across the globe. With all that’s going on politically and humanity wise in the country of my birth – and what I view occurring in the nation I have adopted as my heart’s true home, it’s no wonder that I feel like withdrawing from the world.
I never really understood this expression until I matured to an age in which my soul’s wellbeing became the number one priority in my life. For, you see, I used to be a person who gave so much to ensure other people’s wellness – and often sacrificed my own. That’s what happens when one is the first-born, baby girl in the clan, eldest of three daughters, and takes on responsibility for ensuring that one’s siblings and parents are cared for because of heartfelt love one has for family.
The year 2020 has taught me how caring for one’s self is of utmost importance. It has given me a chance to go deeper within myself to search for a greater connection with the Creator and the natural beauty that surrounds me every day. I am by no means religious, but I am deeply spiritual. It matters more to me to be connected to the Source of All Creation than to worship in a religious institution. From my life experience, I’ve observed how religion becomes divisive and that is not what God wants us to do as humans.
We are asked by the Most-High to love one another, to have compassion, to care and to give to each other. Yet, all that I see around me is divide and conquer, fighting, hatred, lies, deception and many other vices. There isn’t enough love and light to sustain nor support or uplift us as the human race. Some of us are doing our best to increase the positive energy on this planet, but the multitude are caught up in lower vibrations that keep them trapped in unconscious awareness and repeating the same old mind-numbing patterns that have existed for millennia.
I choose to elevate my soul because I know for sure that is what the Almighty requires of me as a spirit in human form. For why did Christ die on the cross if it was not to save me from eternal damnation and to assist me in becoming a more enlightened human being?
During this year of extreme uncertainties, and events that occurred which none of us have had any control over, I have witnessed how a few individuals have moved out of my life and a sparse number have come in. I am a firm believer that people arrive in our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Rare are the persons who stay with us forever. It saddens me sometimes when friendships end unexpectedly or by my own choosing. But then, I’m accustomed to friends coming and going in my life. I grew up as the dependent of a US Air Force Officer. My family moved every two to six years from birth until young adulthood. I continued this pattern until I decided to return home to Anguilla and settle down to roost.
Most of us are at a crossroads in our lives where we need to think about how we are living and where we want to go. Do we keep on acting in the same manner, or do we adapt to new ways of living that will enhance ourselves, our families and our communities? The choice is ours to make because God gives us free will to choose whatever we want to do – the good, the bad and the ugly. Will we be like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and ignore God’s forewarnings, which are evidently all around us in nature and seen in what’s happening in the world, or will we correct the paths that we are on, walking more closely to the Lord, aligning with Christ’s teachings and spiritual practices that are nurturing to our minds, bodies and souls?
I cannot speak for anyone but myself. My lifestyle is aligned with the Most-High’s Divine Plan. May we all become more in tune to the Holy Spirit’s calling.
