Gender Affairs Anguilla, of the Ministry of Social Development and Education, has announced the opening of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” full programme of activities from November 25 – December 10. The 16 Days marks the observance of The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25), International Human Rights Defenders Day (November 29), World AIDS Day (December 1), International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) and Human Rights Day (December 10).
The theme for Anguilla’s 16 Days of Activism is “Be A Pillar” – encouraging men and women to be a pillar to 1) Stop Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, 2) End Child Sexual Abuse, and 3) Stand against Stigma and Discrimination. Each of the events happening during the 16 Days will highlight one of these three focus areas. To open the activities, the Minister of Social Development and Education, with responsibility for Gender Affairs, Hon. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers will deliver opening remarks to be aired on Facebook @GenderAffairsAnguilla on November 25. The full line-up of events is as follows:

Similar to the popular Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk,” the 16 Days of Activism “Orange Table Talk” is a candid space to discuss taboo issues such as violence and abuse in a real, honest and open forum.

• A Walk with a Difference in partnership with the Department of Sports, the iSpeak Autism Awareness Society and UP Girl. 5:30 – 7:30 pm starting at the Ruthwill Auditorium Gazebo to Coronation Park.
“A Walk with A Difference” is a simulation of challenges that persons with various disabilities can face on a daily basis. Participants will gain some first-hand experience of the tests that come with being blindfolded, being in a wheelchair, having arms bound and walking with one leg bound (3-legged walk). All are invited to participate in this unique activity.
