A number of retired health workers in Anguilla are being praised for coming forward to replace personnel from outside the island to assist in keeping Anguilla safe – during the current Covid-19 situation.

The praise has come from Premier Dr. Ellis Webster, who also carries the portfolio for Health and Tourism.

Asked to comment on this matter, he told The Anguillian newspaper: “We had to hire more persons in the health system. We have advertised, and we were looking at bringing in sixteen persons – but we found that Anguillians stepped up to the plate: retired nurses and other retired persons with healthcare experience. They decided to come on board and so we found enough persons in Anguilla who are able to fill in that gap.

“We have hired more persons to do surveillance, and to help out in cases where persons have symptoms and need checking on. We now have those healthcare workers in place.

“We also had to hire Special Constables, like we did in the beginning, for border security. We are now using Special Constables to monitor the different properties to make sure that persons who are in these properties are not coming out and mixing with the public.”
