The University of the West Indies Open Campus Anguilla continues to attract persons from various sectors to its Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Courses. This week three of The UWI’s CPE students from the Healthcare Sector who completed courses last semester are being featured. Each of the Professionals gave reasons for choosing The UWI’s CPE Courses.

Nurse Shaunda Nisbett, Coordinator of Mental Health Services, stated, “My continued growth and development are of great importance to me as it paves the road to endless possibilities. Learning increases knowledge and one must invest in their education. For this reason, I do not ever want to stop learning. I choose to study at UWI because it has high standards and tutors who make you believe in yourself and your ability.”

Nurse Kernita Allard, a Registered Nurse assigned to A & E, commented on the same question: “The CPE classes I took, Supervisory Management I & II, have made me a better person. I understand so much more about people and why we do what we do – and how to deal with difficult situations professionally. Everybody needs a class like that: a class where you come in as strangers and leave as friends, very knowledgeable friends.”

Nurse June-Gay Raynes, also a Registered Nurse and Midwife, repeated similar sentiments and pointed out: “The catch for me to take both classes was the tutor. Everyone needs someone who understands and cares, and that is what I received. I received lots of valuable information and lots of great ways to move forward. But the most important thing I received was someone who understood my struggles and who fuelled me to press on. That is priceless.”

The UWI, in addition to its usual courses, is offering a number of new courses and workshops this semester. These include: Protocol & Diplomacy Skills, Healthcare Management, Introduction to Project Management, Procurement Management, Guide for First Responders and Care for the Elderly. These courses will be offered face-to-face or online based on student preference or on the demands of the course.

Persons interested in registering for one or more of these new courses, or the traditional ones like Supervisory Management, Conversational Spanish, Finance, Auditing, among others, are invited to contact The UWI Open Campus Anguilla at 497-8156 or email at anguilla@open.uwi.edu.
