As part of the activities marking the launch of the 2020/2021 academic year, Staff and Students of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla participated in the worship service at the Christian Fellowship Church on Sunday, August 30, 2020.
The inspirational service, under the leadership of Brother Bancroft Battick, included an interactive praise and worship session. Members of the Student Guild were actively involved through the reading of the scripture and rendering a musical selection. Manager of the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories Sites, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, expressed gratitude on behalf of the UWI staff and students – and her great delight that the students seek to remember God as the new academic year begins.
In a letter to Senior Pastor Reverend Dr. Kathleen Richardson, the UWI representatives conveyed heartfelt thanks for the gracious acceptance of the Management, Staff and Students at Sunday’s service. The letter reads in part, “We were delighted to be a part of the worship experience and to take part in it as well. We appreciated the prayers offered upon our behalf, and the kind wishes expressed by your church leaders. More importantly, we were so grateful for the timely reminder by Minister Clyde Richardson, as we begin our new academic year, that “The God of the mountain is still the God in our valley.”
Activities for the launch of the UWI Open Campus 2020/2021 academic year began in August with a number of online and local orientation activities and continued with a Mental Wellness Session on 2nd September and the official Online Welcome and Matriculation Ceremony on Wednesday, 9th September. The annual Guild of Students “Oneness” networking with members of other local Student bodies is also scheduled for later in the Semester.
