The UP Girl “Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk” Seminar, held August 16 – 22, 2020, concluded with over 80+ attendees who all left feeling empowered. The organisation formed in March 2020 was rolled out in Anguilla in August 2020 with its first annual seminar geared towards females aged 10 – 18, with a mandate to empower young females to be themselves regardless of their background. The seminar was a huge success and received many accolades for the topics that were discussed. The UP Girl was formed by Sáaliha Abdur-Raheem, a 15-year-old Anguillian-born female currently residing in the UK, who has a passion for motivating young females. Her team consists of Vice-President, Tofoya Connor who resides in the UK, Tajah Carter – Secretary, Norica Proctor – PRO, both residing in Anguilla with Executive Members consisting of her parents, Salih Abdur-Raheem and Alfa Akbar.
The week of activities covered a variety of topics about wealth, physical and mental health, personal development, fashion, make up and skin care, social media, relationships, feminism and more. The attendees paid a small fee of US$20 and received a branded UP Girl T-shirt, and other paraphernalia, along with lunch and refreshments each day. The full week of events were held at LA Vue Boutique Inn Hotel, which generously sponsored their property for the seminar to be held. Attendees were rewarded based on various categories at the Conclusion & Awards Ceremony held on August 22, 2020. A full list of the topics and presenters for each can be found here or on their Facebook/Instagram page: @UPGirl.ai.
Congratulations to the team and special thanks extended to the participants, sponsors, contributors, parents and presenters.
