In the previous edition of The Anguillian newspaper, reference was made to the Morris Vanterpool Primary School where the construction work is reaching an advanced stage.
Four other schools are also part of the rebuilding process – following the destruction done to various public sector buildings in Anguilla by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
The schools, now at a high point of construction, are the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, at the corner of South Hill and Blowing Point; The Valley Primary School; the Orealia Primary School at Stoney Ground; and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
The Comprehensive School includes Campus A and other facilities. The new site, which replaced the original area in The Valley, is The Quarter, just off the main road. It is both the largest school project, accounting for some 25 million US dollars, and the last of the educational projects on which construction work started. Most of the work, so far, has been concentrated on the supporting services of the project – including underground and surface structures.
The rebuilding of schools and health facilities, which took the brunt of Hurricane Irma, is taking the largest portion of the sixty million pounds sterling provided, under the Anguilla Humanitarian Programme, by the UK Government. The health facilities under construction are The Valley Polyclinic and the Western Polyclinic at South Hill.
In addition, a significant amount of renovation and extension work has been completed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. At present, a storeroom and new laboratory facilities have just been provided. The hospital also boasts a new range of high-quality equipment to improve its services.
Meanwhile, included in the Anguilla Programme is the Blowing Point Port Development Project which is still to be undertaken.
