Who are you worshipping? Are you aware of the incredible power of worshipping God? Well, worship is a powerful tool. It is the means whereby we invite God’s presence into our lives and into our world. Worship has a way of changing our lives and giving us different perspectives on how we see our circumstances. It is an incredible blessing to see life from God’s point of view instead of our own. God can break through any obstacle when we make worship our lifestyle.
Every person is created to be a worshipper. God dwells and manifests Himself in the praises of His people. Worship is a declaration of our weakness and God’s strength. Therefore, whatever the issue in our lives is, the key is to worship God who created us and knows everything about us – our failures, shortcomings, insecurities, besetting sins, and fears. If we want to see breakthroughs in our life and in the lives of others, we need to enter into deeper levels of worship both personally and corporately. There is no way that we can walk in God’s peace, power, and perfect plan without a lifestyle of worship.
It is easy to praise God when everything is going well in our lives, but it is awfully difficult to worship Him when things are hard. But it is during those times that we need to worship Him – to get into His presence. Sometimes we just have to tell our soul what to do. You see, when things are falling apart in our lives, our soul does not always feel like praising God. So, we have to will ourselves too. As we praise God as an act of our will, our spirit will begin to awake inside us.
As our soul begins to line up with our proclamations, a flow of anointing will begin to release in our hearts and into the atmosphere around us. The oppressive cloud will lift, and the presence of God will come into our midst. As we press through the heaviness, a transformation will take place. We will begin to see the beauty and greatness of God. Our faith in God will rise up. Our spirit will begin to sing.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by your circumstances and the troubles of life at the moment, and you wish to discover that experience for yourself, now is the time to invite God’s presence into your situation. You see, my friends, singing is an important spiritual expression. So take the first step by opening your mouth and beginning to worship God with your whole being.
Worship is one of the greatest weapons in spiritual warfare. Worshipping God is a key to breakthrough in every area of our lives. God has the power to turn any darkness into light. Worship breaks the power of the enemy and brings in God’s presence and power.
The Bible is filled with many stories about people worshipping God and its power. Psalm 22:3 states that God actually lives and dwells in our praises. This is the mystery and the miracle of the breakthrough power and presence of God when we worship. It is through worshipping God that God fights our battles for us. When we worship, we affirm the truth of God’s Word, and it is being rooted deep in our hearts.
There are many people in the Bible who experienced the power of worshipping God.
1. Paul and Silas singing in the prison: Acts 16:24-26. Instead of getting depressed, worried and stressed about their situation, Paul and Silas prayed and worshipped God. Their singing caught heaven’s attention and God worked on their behalf. And as a result of their praise, the atmosphere changed – the prison doors were opened and their chains were loosed. Heavenly assistance came and rescued Paul and Silas in their situation. Not only that. They were able to make peace with the jailer who was in charge that midnight. He believed in Jesus and his household got saved.
2. The story of Jehoshaphat. Found in Second Chronicles 20:22, it states, “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated”. What a strange battle plan –but the result was that the Lord won the battle for them. There is something inherent in the act of worship that enables us to encounter the power of God.
3. The Woman with the Alabaster Box found in Luke 7:36-50. Some of the greatest acts of worship can come from the most unlikely source. This woman was an outcast who had been used and abused. But something about the words and actions of Jesus caused her to bring her most valuable possession and pour it out in an expression of love and worship. In one moment, she pressed through fear, prejudices and shame, and created one of the most intimate moments of worship in the Bible. You see, when man’s opinion has declared us “guilty”, there is One who can be touched by our worship and forgive our sins!
My friends, when we worship, the invisible God is at work doing invisible and powerful things for us. During worship, we get realigned, refreshed and refueled. We find unspeakable joy and indescribable peace. We discover the breakthrough strength of God which enables us to walk in the truth, live in His presence and see Him fight our battles for us. It is how we can put the beauty of the Gospel on display, receive His many blessings and at the same time be a blessing to the world.
Remember: Worship is how we express our love, adoration, admiration, and wonder at God’s presence. Worship changes the worshipper into the image of the One worshipped”.
