The dance competition was created to enhance team spirit, independence and leadership among the dance students. It challenged the bodies and minds of the dancers as they learned various styles of dance – while appreciating aspects such as costume choice, hairstyle and all necessary decisions to ensure a successful show.
The four teams: black, gold, red and purple were randomly compiled with dancers ranging in age of 4 years to 16 years. Dancers selected the captains and co-captains for each team and were given the criteria for the dances.

The teams were as follows:
– Black Phoenix captained by Ella Rydon and co-captained by Tyjanique Petty
– Red Dragons captained by Deronique Smith and co-captained by Amelia Olivacce
– Purple Stars captained by Shakela Morton and co-captained by Rayana Webster
– Gold Warriors captained by Mariska Matthew and co-captained by Rhaine Hodge

The teams competed in four (4) dance genre categories, namely, Musical, Contemporary, Soca, and Open where they choreographed the dance. After a very competitive show, the Black Phoenix was determined, by the panel of judges, as the winner followed by Purple Stars, Red Dragons, and Gold Warriors respectively. Ms. Ella Rydon, captain of Black Phoenix, was determined to be the best overall dancer.

Although the Twinkle Stars (dancers age 3) did not compete, they performed quite impressively to a very appreciative audience.
Klassique would like to thank the sponsors; Department of Youth and Culture, IWAS, Joyce Kentish & Associates, Nikhil’s Fashion, Sunset Homes, Merchants Market, Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (for the use of the school), Ms. Tania Rydon, Titanium Audio Visual and Black Orchid Florists. A heartfelt thank you is also expressed to our parents, teachers, students, audience, and persons for making the event successful.

Registration is now open for the 2020/2021 dance year at https://klassiqueacademy.typeform.com/to/KhM2hquW
