The Honourable Minster Mr. Haydn Hughes, responsible for Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing and Tourism (MICUH&T), reports that the Government of Anguilla is well on schedule with its vehicle replacement programme. This is an ongoing effort to reduce the operating cost, improve efficiency and sustainability of the Government of Anguilla (GOA) fleet. In December 2019, MICUH procured the services of Motorworld to supply and service, through warranty, a total of twenty-six (26) petrol vehicles as part of the first phase of the vehicle replacement strategy.
On Friday 28th August, two (2) of the six (6) outstanding vehicles arrived on island and were assigned to the Honourable Minister for Economic Development and the Honourable Ministerial Assistant (MSD) as part of GOAs obligations. Four more vehicles are currently outstanding and will be assigned to various Ministries and Line Agencies to ensure the Government can deliver on its regular work programmes.
“The renting of vehicles has come at a tremendous cost to the taxpayers of Anguilla. In the interest of fiscal management, the role out of the second phase of the vehicle replacement strategy will start the transition from petrol vehicles to electric vehicles to further reduce the operating cost and improve resilience and sustainability of the GOA vehicular fleet,” said the Minister.
The second phase will include a competitive bidding process, in keeping with the Public Procurement and Contract Administration Act, and the Framework for Fiscal Development and Sustainability Act.
