The Corporate Development Department of the Royal Anguilla Police Force has released its crime statistics for the second quarter of 2020 (January – June). The release has also showed a comparison of its crime figures for the same period in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The number of actual crimes reported in 2020 have been reduced by 20% in comparison to 2019, and 31 % in 2018 (down from 353 to 284 crimes in 2018, and from 412 to 284 2019). Additionally, the reduction between 2018 and 2019 was 14% for the same period and the brought to justice outcome in 2018, 2019 and 2020 amounted to 29%, 47% and 42% respectively.
During the second quarter, there has been a notable reduction in crime although we are faced with the Covid 19 global pandemic. This reduction can be attributed to ongoing border security, proactive and intelligence led policing which resulted in a significant control in acquisitive crimes.
Acquisitive crimes have seen an increase by 11% for the same period 2019 (96 crimes in 2019 and 107 crimes in 2020 for the same period). Burglary remains a high priority crime with six (6) crimes more than the same period in 2019.
Figures for serious crime show that there was a decrease in serious crimes reported for the same period in 2019 by 12%. The RAPF continues to make gun crimes a priority and as such has had several successes in seizures of firearms and ammunition, one (1) crime less than that in 2019 for the same period.
The Royal Anguilla Police Force remains committed to protecting the community of Anguilla and will continue to perform its duties at the highest level of standards. Members would like to take this opportunity to thank you the citizens of Anguilla for the great partnership we have fostered over the years and look forward to mutual benefits.
