The Department of Youth and Culture (DYC), in collaboration with the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee (ASFC), is pleased to confirm the staging of the Anguilla Summer Festival 2020 – One Day Experience, slated for Monday 3 August 2020 – August Monday.

Despite the challenging times, the organisers have made every effort to put together an event that offers something for everyone, ensuring that August Monday 2020 will still be a day of celebration in Anguilla. The day will begin with J’ouvert, starting in front of The People’s Market at 5:00 am. The street jam will follow the traditional route and end at 9:00 am in Water Swamp (by Jumbo Plaza) or in Sandy Ground. The timing and route were carefully considered to accommodate students taking exams on that day.

The One Day Experience will then resume with a free grand stage show at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre from 5:00 pm to midnight. This event will feature Senior and Junior Calypsonians, winners of the 2019 Anguilla Summer Festival competitions, From Within Dance and various local artists and bands. To complete the August Monday experience, the Anguilla Boat Racing Association is working feverishly to organise at least one boat race, though funds have all but ‘dried up’.

Chair of the ASFC, Albert Burton, said: “The Anguilla Summer Festival Committee is pleased to be able to bring the One Day Experience to the people of Anguilla. We encourage revellers to party safely and responsibly as we each have a duty of care.” Director of the DYC, Avon Carty, added: “I would like to remind everyone that our borders remain closed. We know that our family and friends in St Maarten/St Martin who, over the years have celebrated with us, will understand and respect the decision of our government and the peculiar circumstances this year.”

The Department of Youth and Culture and the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee extend thanks to all who have been working to plan and execute this year’s event. Special thanks to all the participants who have agreed to support the activities pro bono.
