Anguilla’s ailing former Chief Minister, Mr. Hubert Hughes, was given a warm welcome home by family members, friends and well-wishers when he arrived from Colombia on Friday, June 19. He returned to the island’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport after a five-and-a-half-hour Air Ambulance flight.
He was receiving medical treatment in the South American country for some time now, and many persons in Anguilla were able to keep in touch with him.
He has acknowledged, with much thanks and appreciation, the many gestures of welcome and good wishes he received from everyone.
Mr. Hughes has been placed in a private villa for two weeks as part of the covid-19 quarantine arrangements in Anguilla.
The former Government leader (born October 15, 1933), served as Chief Minister of Anguilla from March 16, 1994 to March 6, 2000; and again between February 2010 and April 2015 following which he retired from active politics.
He was the founder and leader of the Anguilla United Movement, now restyled the Anguilla Progressive Movement under the leadership of Dr. Lorenzo Webster.
