DISTRICT ONE LEADS THE WAY! Pam’s Update – 5th June 2020

Fellow Anguillians, in 2015 District One started a movement for change; a departure from the divisive political party culture that has delivered poor representation, stifled our growth potential and left many of our people in persistent poverty. The people of District One voted in 2015 for proper representation and competent leadership. By doing so, they also delivered effective Opposition for the people of Anguilla in the House of Assembly. I am grateful to God that he has strengthened and positioned me to be of service to the people of my community and, by extension, the people of Anguilla.

Before 2015, District One suffered for many years from a lack of proper representation and significant neglect by both the AUM and AUF Administrations. This is a painful truth that we must accept; the very birthplace of the Anguilla Revolution suffered from a lack of basic needs and services. Today, the same political parties and players have once again embarked on their campaign of deceit and manipulation; doing all that they can to reverse the progressive and independent mind-set of the people in District One to satisfy their own personal political agenda, special interest groups and selfish ambitions.

However, the people of District One made it crystal clear in 2015 that they no longer wished to toe the party line, but rather place their confidence in an individual with a proven track record of service to the community and a bona fide commitment to represent and serve the people’s best interests. This was the starting point for fresh representation that was based on loyalty to the people, not to a political party. This was a model of community participation and collective responsibility that has shaped the work that we have done in District One and now sets the stage for our 2020 General Elections.

As an Independent Candidate in the upcoming elections in District One, the people have made it clear to me that they have no intention to go backwards to the wilderness of partisan party politics that only leads to division, suffering and hardship. In fact, the case for Independents has now grown even stronger in the last few years as the people become weary and tired of one political social group controlling the wealth distribution in our country, leaving scraps for the rest of our struggling workforce, the poor and the vulnerable in our society.

This 2020 General Election is a clarion call for all responsible and right-thinking Anguillians to close the chapter on the failures of the party system in our country and turn a new page for a new government made up of competent individuals with good character and a proven record of service to the community. These individuals must believe in, subscribe to, and exemplify the One Anguilla Vision which is centred on Love, Unity and Respect, with Equal Opportunity for All our people. This is the foundation upon which we will build a vibrant, innovative and prosperous society where all our people with reap the rewards.

To the people of District One – as we enter the final leg on the campaign trail – while the two political parties busy themselves in tearing each other apart, with no regard for your children’s well-being or for the issues that we care about, remember that your ballot paper bears the symbol of THE FISH, a symbol of unity, hope, love and proven commitment to the people of Island Harbour, Welches, Pond Ground, Garland Bottom, The Hill, East End, and The Cays. The people are Staying Pam, the people are Voting Pam! On Election Day – Vote the FISH!
