The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus this week launched registration for its 2019/2020 Summer Semester with a number of courses aimed at professional development and retooling. Since the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UWI Open Campus, which is considered the leader in online education in the region, has been training and assisting its sister campuses, and other regional institutions, in the delivery of online learning.
This Summer the Open Campus is slated to deliver more than 400 online courses, across a range of disciplines, to accommodate its regular students as well as Cross Campus and Non-UWI students.
Some 80 of the courses are open to applicants who are currently not enrolled in the UWI, but wish to pursue “one-off” courses for their professional development, to update their knowledge in their field of expertise, enhance their on-the-job efficiency or to satisfy entry requirements to a programme within the UWI or another institution. The credits obtained through the Special Admissions process can also be counted towards UWI certification and University programmes.
These courses include: Responding to Diversity through Educational Policy and Practice, Psychological Issues in the Classroom, Business Law, Employee Law, Crisis Management and the Social Worker, Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation, Resort Operations, Community Tourism, Econometrics, Mathematics, Child Rights & Protection Issues, Managing Organisational Change, and Fundamentals of Epidemiology among others.
The complete list of online courses can be viewed at www.open.uwi.edu/summer/course-listing. Registration is from May 4th to June 14th and classes will begin on June 15th and end on July 31, 2020.
In addition to the online credit courses, the UWI Open Campus Anguilla is offering a number of local Continuing Professional and Education (CPE) courses as part of its Summer Programme. Courses like Conversational Spanish Level II, Supervisory Management I and II, Internal Auditing and Finance for Non-Financial Managers, that are normally offered face-to-face, will be offered virtually this semester with local facilitators.
Interested persons are invited to contact the UWI Open Campus Anguilla at telephone 497-8156, What’s App 235-5713, or email anguilla@open.uwi.edu for additional information.
