The Social Security Board has once again demonstrated its commitment to education and youth empowerment by providing sponsorship to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School’s Literary and Debating Society. The Board has been a long-standing supporter and major sponsor of the Debating Team’s participation at the annual Leeward Islands Debating Competition (LIDC) over the years. This week the Board presented the Debating Society with a cheque for US$4,000.00 to assist with the Team’s participation at the 48th Annual LIDC slated for 26th February – 2nd March 2020 in Montserrat.
The Board sees the annual competition as an educational and youth development initiative, and is proud of its track record as a major sponsor of the Team. It is also pleased to continue to provide support to the island’s youth and enhance value to our citizens and communities through education and empowerment.
The LIDC brings together a cross section of the sub-region’s young people with the primary objectives of promoting regional integration, developing the oratorical skills of the region’s youth and providing a forum for young people to express their views on current issues. These objectives are commendable and important to national development.
Best of luck to Team Anguilla and may you bring home the championship!
