In July 2019, Lenovo rewarded top performers of their company with an incentive trip to beautiful Anguilla, and the Four Seasons Resort. During their stay at the resort, they learned of Four Seasons annual “Books & Bins” programme where the resort and their guests donate needed school supplies and books to the six local primary schools. Lenovo loved the idea and wanted to do all they could to help.
Tekeyo Bodie, Director of Events for Four Seasons, invited students from the Morris Vanterpool Primary School to the resort to meet with the group. The students performed songs and shared stories with the Lenovo employees.
“When the opportunity to support Morris Vanterpool Primary School (MVPS) came up, our team embraced the school supply drive,” stated Matt Zielinski, President, Lenovo North America. “We discovered that Hurricane Irma devastated much of the Caribbean, including Anguilla, in 2017 and some schools were still not open. We were shocked and wanted to help. When we met the students we were delighted to find that the hurricane hasn’t dampened the passion of MVPS staff and students. We decided we needed to do more.”
With that in mind, the Lenovo team returned back to work and decided to send new Lenovo laptops to Anguilla.
“We all truly enjoyed meeting the students as it was a highlight of our event last summer,” continued Mr. Zielinski. “We were thrilled we could continue our support with the donation of more than 50 new Lenovo laptops delivered February 12, 2020. We’re proud to play a small part in supporting the school and the amazing students’ educational pursuits. A special thanks to the Four Seasons Resort Anguilla and especially Tekeyo Bodie for helping connect Lenovo and MVPS.”
The school was equally delighted with the new-found friendship with Lenovo!
“The staff, PTA and students of the Morris Vanterpool Primary School, would like to express a hearty thank you to the management and staff of Four Seasons, and Lenovo, for their generous presentation of 50 laptop computers,” stated Principal Paula Etienne. “Their generosity and willingness to partner with our school, will enable the teachers to utilize technology to bolster the curriculum as a means of enhancing the quality of our lessons which we provide to our tech-savvy students. These laptops will provide our students with the opportunity to complete assignments, research and projects in a timely manner – as well as increase their knowledge and enhance skills.”
The laptops will be used by the students and teachers in the classroom, especially the ICT lab, as well as in the school library. The use of these laptop computers will meet the diverse abilities and needs of the students in the attempt to differentiate activities/lessons. One of the school’s goals was to have the option to move from the textbooks to the laptops. With the donation of the laptops, the school will reach this goal. A future goal is to move from whiteboards to smartboards.
