Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Anguilla to date, the Committee with responsibility for Festival Del Mar has decided to take the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and cancel the festival this year.
Festival Del Mar, Anguilla’s top seafood festival, was scheduled to be held in Island Harbour over the Easter weekend, April 11th and 12th. Plans for the festival, this year, were in the advanced stages and a big turnout was anticipated. However, WHO has advised that large public gatherings should be suspended, or postponed, based on the ability of the organization and the country to manage the risks and the stress that can be placed on the health system should infections occur. With patrons of the festival usually numbering in the hundreds, it is more prudent for us to be safe and cancel. Note that neighbouring islands have started cancelling or postponing similar events to contain the spread of the virus.
The Committee sincerely apologizes for any inconveniences this decision may cause. Let us continue to protect ourselves by following the hygienic measures outlined by the Ministry of Health – and by limiting physical contact with others.
