On the afternoon of March 15th, The Ministry of Health was notified that a person presented at the Princess Alexandra Hospital with symptoms of a respiratory tract infection but who did not fully meet the definition of a suspected case COVID—19.

Samples have been collected to be sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad tomorrow morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the patient, who presented with mild symptoms, has been isolated at an appropriate facility as per the established protocol.
The Ministry of Health is aware that the situation is still evolving but we will seek to inform you as the situation develops. We urge the public to remain calm and to note that the best methods for protecting the community include practicing hygienic measures. We remind persons to practice:

• Frequent Handwashing; if water is unavailable utilize an alcohol-based handrub.
• Covering coughs or sneezes with a disposable tissue or in the crook of a flexed elbow.
• Avoiding contact with persons who are ill with symptoms of acute respiratory infections such as fever or cough.
• Regularly clean surfaces and objects that are frequently touched or handled.
