It will be the first time, for many people across Anguilla, when they visit the enormous site for the new Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School and facilities.
Located immediately north of the Omololu International School, off The Quarter main road, the site is being bulldozed leaving a relatively flat working surface. The land, comprising 17.5 acres, was purchased by the Government of Anguilla from the late Mr. Albert Lake. It was formerly an agricultural area and later served for animal husbandry.
The expansive area will not only provide much space for the school buildings, but an athletic track has also been proposed for the site as well. Meanwhile, it is understood that the Government hopes to acquire another 14 acres to the east of the property. This would provide additional space for the school and its varied facilities.
Three building contracts, involving Anguillian builders, have already been signed and one is to be issued shortly. All four contracts amount to some 25 million dollars. It is the largest portion of the 60 million pounds provided to the Government of Anguilla by the UK Government under the Anguilla Programme.
The area is being bulldozed by Mr. Cuthwin Webster, one of the contractors and heavy equipment owners. He and one his “right hand men” were at the site this week.
