At a well-attended reception hosted at Government House, Sea Feathers, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Perin Bradley, thanked senior public servants for their work for, and commitment to, the people of Anguilla.
He also extended his gratitude to various partners in the community for supporting the government’s employees and, by extension, the people of the island on a whole. Among the gathering were representatives of NGOs including WYG (the British consulting company supporting the UK Government’s 60 million pounds grant for the Anguilla Programme).
In addressing the gathering on Thursday evening, January 30, Mr. Bradley said: “I would like to welcome all of you to Government House, east, and to thank Governor Foy and Dina for hosting us. This is an opportunity for us to say thank you, more than anything else, to the rank and file of the public service – and also our partners as it takes that collaborative effort to make Anguilla work in the best interest of all the people of Anguilla.
“Looking ahead, 2020 is going to be a very interesting year. We are going to have an election coming up. I think the Premier said before the second quarter, [but that will not change] those fundamental principles that govern the way the public service is supposed to operate – and the necessity for us to do our jobs to the best of our ability to deliver for the people of Anguilla. Again, I want to thank all of you, particularly in the public service. I will be counting on all of you to do your very best.”
Mr. Bradley told the public servants that although they had done some very good work over the past few years, there was still a lot of work they needed to do this year. He added that there was a list of decisions of the Executive Council still to be worked on – and that part of what he would be focusing on would be getting the public service to deliver on those specific mandates and the things that EXCO wanted to see happen. However, he believed, based on the track record of the public service, that all the back log of work would be done.
