The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) showcased Anguilla at the 40th edition of BIT Milan, the most important tourism event in Italy, and one of the most important travel shows in Europe. Over 1,100 exhibitors from all over the world participated at the show, which attracted 43,000 visitors. The show, which started on Sunday, February 9th, ended on February 11th.
The Anguilla stand, organized by the Anguilla Tourist Board, was prominently located in a central position of the international pavilion of BIT Milan, and featured backlit blow-ups depicting breathtaking shots of the most spectacular beaches on the island. The stand was stormed by Italian visitors eager to spend their holidays under the Caribbean sun. The exhibition started with a day dedicated to consumers, while only tourism professionals and the media were admitted on the following two days.
The Anguillian delegation was made up of a determined and forceful team from the Anguilla Tourist Board, along with representatives from two island properties, the Carimar Beach Club and Shoal Bay Villas.
These two resorts are reaping the benefits of years of investment in promotional activities in Italy, working closely with the Tourist Board, and are much loved by Italian visitors. The products most in demand were honeymoon packages and family travel, both of which Anguilla is ideally suited to provide.
Italy is an important strategic market for Anguilla, as an average of some 1,500 Italian tourists have been travelling to Anguilla mostly during the Summer months. According to BIT Milan’slatest survey, outbound trips from Italy are forecast to reach almost 24.6 million this year, up by +3.3%. The Anguilla team was on hand to increase their share of Italian tourists who are known to love the beach and the sea, the preferred locations for most summer vacations.
