Last week, the ALHCS Business Department celebrated its annual Business Week with the introduction of two exciting new events.
On Tuesday 4th February, 2020, the inaugural ALHCS Business Idea Basket (BIB) sponsored by the Anguilla Youth Business Foundation was held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre. The purpose of the BIB is to foster, promote and bring practicality, youthful creativity and innovation in application to real life issues in Anguilla.
Students from the Sixth Form Entrepreneurship classes were tasked with brainstorming for a creative, innovative, high-tech solution towards Sandy Ground Pond Development that would benefit Anguilla economically, environmentally, socially and be Beyond Extraordinary.
Five groups, comprising four members each, participated in the BIB:
Dream Builders: Shezilique Frazer, Xaria Rouse, McKayla Webster & Samuel Hodge; Re-Imagined: Raheem Adamson, Keisha Edwards, Leasha Samuel, Alvanique Frank; The Extraordinaires: Jodi Vanterpool, Jewel Singh, Deleon Hughes & Kennetter Busby; JACKs: Justin Shillingford, Abiel Telemaque, Carliyah Adams & Keila Alturo, and Triple RX Services: Raheem Carty, Raymel Niles, Ronecio Edwards and Xavion Johnson.
Each team’s business idea was judged for creativity, innovation, aesthetics, economic benefit & its environmentally friendliness. In addition, there were three special categories that were judged: Best Idea to Execute, Best Presentation of Idea, and Beyond Extraordinary Idea. Community experts in each field were invited to be judges – however, the in house and online audience judged the Best Presentation award.
Each group was allotted 12 minutes to make their oral, visual and physical concept presentation. It was evident that significant time, energy and resources were invested in each presentation. The quality of each presentation left all the expert judges and audience raving and amazed and, at times, even speechless! Several ideas presented were of such a high realistic calibre for implementation that they caused the judges and audience to buzz long after the evening was done and it still continues.
Ideas from the audience were also gathered and presented as the scores were tabulated. Upon tabulation, the final results were as follows:
3rd Place (US$500)- Triple RX Services
2nd Place (US$1000)- Re-Imagined
1st Place ($1500)- The Extraordinares
Best Idea to Execute (Fitbits) – JACKs
Best Presentation (Blue Tooth Speakers) – The Extraordinaires
Beyond Extraordinary Idea (Kindles) – Re-Imagined
