The Anguilla Social Security Board (ASSB) and the Anguilla Community College are proud to announce the success of the first James Ronald Webster (JRW) Scholar at the Anguilla Community College. The well-deserved accolade goes to Ms Camarlla Blake who has successfully completed the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business – and is expected to graduate with a Merit or Distinction rating.
Camarlla was awarded the JRW scholarship in November 2017, just months after Hurricane Irma. Yet, despite the timing, she proved herself an intrepid candidate and was chosen out of a field of seven having impressed the Board. The JRW scholarship was awarded by the ASSB in recognition of its 35th anniversary in service to the Anguillian community, and to honour the Father of the Nation, J Ronald Webster ,who signed the institution into law in 1980.
The ASSB wrote to congratulate Ms Blake: saying “The SSB is thrilled to share this important moment with you, Ms. Blake. Your commitment and dedication have brought you the results you deserve, and your diploma is an achievement you have truly earned. We encourage you to make the most of the knowledge you have learned, and use this diploma as a stepping stone to continue your journey in pursuit of higher education.”
And that is exactly what Camarlla has done! Once she completed the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma she immediately enrolled to do the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Business. Camarlla says she chooses to study at the Anguilla Community College because “attending the college gives [her] the opportunity to add qualifications to [her] CV in an affordable and convenient way” . She also noted that the BTEC Level 3 has laid a foundation for her – as well as enabling her to perform well in her professional life.
Pearson BTEC qualifications are created to support exactly that outcome. Dr Karl Dawson, President at the ACC, also congratulated Ms Blake on her success and reiterated that the strength of BTEC qualifications lie in their two-fold purpose; preparation for further tertiary education as well as preparation for effectiveness in the workplace.
The Anguilla Community College launches a new cohort for the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in January 2020. Persons recently completing Secondary School with at least 4 CXC CSECs ,as well as more mature adult learners looking to build their marketability, can join the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business for a January 2020 start.
