On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November, The Anguilla Arts & Crafts Centre at West End hosted its very first Art & Crafts Exhibition. The Exhibition kicked-off with an opening ceremony. Ms. Malesia Carty, the Centre’s Manager welcomed guest speakers; Hon. Parliament Secretary Tourism, Youth and Culture Mr. Cardigan Connor, Ms. Kerniel Chung, Ms. Avon Carty and participating artiste, crafters and local food vendors.
The event was marked as a celebration of Anguillian art, crafts, and food.
Mr. Kenneth Richardson, I. Wassie.I Conch Factory, Ms. Bernice Richardson & Ms. Ronetta Fahia, Mr. Travaughn Simpson, Ms. Canita Ruan, Anguilla Rocks, Ms. Aquanisha Gumbs, Ms. Courtney Devenish, Ms. Hyacinth Hughes, Ms. Carrol Shannon, Ms. Racita Gibbs, Ms. Jaine Rogers Price and Ms, Shaneka Robinson, were some of the participating artistes and crafters.
While Mr. Franklyn Richardson, Ms. Irama Harrigan-Reid, Ms. Lornette Richardson & company, Ebenezer Methodist Church, Verlyn Yearwood, Naulda’s Local Hot Sauce and Troprical Treats ensured there were an array of local dishes and treats to enjoy.
Roots Binghi provided a festive atmosphere of local rhythms, making the event an artistic and soulful experience for all who patronised.
Ms. Malesia Carty said The Anguilla Arts & Craft Centre hopes to host another exhibition at the end of March 2020. She went on to extend special thanks to the Hon. Parliament Secretary Mr. Cardigan Connor, Ms. Kerniel Chung, Mrs. Candis Niles, Ms. Avon Carty and Ms. Andia Ravariere for their hard work and support.
The Anguilla Arts & Crafts Centre is a Heritage Tourism Project developed by Tourism Unit of the Ministry of Tourism. The centre provides a venue for the display and sale of local arts and crafts; such as paintings, decorative items, costume jewelry made from local natural fibres, wood carving, sculptures, fabric art, pottery and other craft items designed and created specifically for Anguilla.
