The principal and staff of the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School have led the way for other schools to recognise persons in their respective communities who have assisted them over the years.

The school held its first such recognition event at Flavours Restaurant at La Vue on Thursday evening, December 12. The opening prayer was delivered by the Senior Minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Howard Simon.

The first part of the event was the honouring of twelve persons and businesses for contributing their time, expertise and money to the school. “We want you to know that we appreciate all you have done and continue to do for our school.” Ms. Tiffany Thomas, the principal, told them. The honourees were: Karl Woodley; Jane Carty; NAGICO Ltd; Jane Abbott; C.A.N. Engineering; Vincent Carty; Anguilla Garden Centre; Kenroy Herbert; Moran Hall; Lashawn Corbett; Darlene Reid; and Mr. and Mrs. Clynn Franklin.

In announcing the other awardees during the second part of the event, the principal said: “We are now honouring those who have been giving to us over five years – and their names will be placed on a Wall of Fame when the school is rebuilt.”

She named them as follows: Bernard Carty; Calypso Charters; Bertha Franklin; Parts Haven; Straw Hat, Christian Fellowship Church; Kathleen Hughes; Safe Cargo; Pete’s Trucking; E’s Owen; Sandy Island; Warren Burdle; Mr. and Mrs. West; Greig Trucking; Curtis Richardson; the family of E. Silwood Connor; Bethel Methodist Church; Mr. and Mrs. Glendon Carty; the family of Maycelle Roberts; and the family of Dorothy Hughes.

In making the presentations to them, the principal said: “These are partners who have been giving to us for over five years. When we call on them they give willingly without any hesitation, and I want to say a big thank you to them. We are planning that every two years we will be creating a plaque where we will have those names – and we will be unveiling it. When the new school is built, we will be putting it up on what we call A ‘Wall of Fame’.”
The core sponsors of the Community Partners Award Ceremony were the Anguilla Electricity Company, represented by Mrs. Jamila Morson- Hodge, and a number of visitors to Anguilla.
