With the 2019/2020 tourism season now beginning in Anguilla, Cuisinart Resort’s 18-hole Greg Norman Championship Golf Course hosted an exciting Z-Cup Tournament on October 26 and 27 involving participating golfers from Antigua, St. Kitts and Anguilla.
Following the final match, Creator of the tournament, Mr. Zeke Percival, a professional golfer in St. Kitts, commented on the tournament during which he spoke highly about the golf course.
“Some five years ago, I created a tournament between St. Kitts and Antigua and we call it ‘The Z-Cup’, he told The Anguillian newspaper. “The first four years, we played two matches in St. Kitts and two in Antigua. It was a five series match and the scores were two all, and we decided to go to a neutral golf course to play the fifth match – the tie breaker. I chose beautiful Anguilla so that’s why we are here.”
Asked why he chose CuisinArt Resort’s Golf Course, he replied. “It is because I have been to Anguilla twice – once for the opening and once for the East Caribbean Golf Championship, and I love it. I think it is a beautiful track. The people there treated us very nice and so I decided that we should come back here.”
Mr. Percival elaborated: “I think it is one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean. It is a beautiful tournament golf course and layout – and the golfers love it. It was in great condition and I think everybody enjoyed the tournament.”
He continued: “We were lucky to be graced with the presence of Sir Vivian Richards, the West Indies cricket icon. He has been with us from the beginning and loves this tournament which he attends every year. There were eighteen golfers from Antigua and eighteen from St. Kitts. The team from St. Kitts won the five-match series.”
The golfers in Anguilla, who took the opportunity to play in the match, included Mr. Val Banks, Mr. Tommy Astaphan and Mr. Lawrence Stott.
The closing reception, luncheon and award ceremony, took place at the privately-owned Royal Palms Holiday Apartments at Lower South Hill.
Meanwhile, both CuisinArt Resort and The Reef by CuisinArt, carrying the combined name Resort & Residences by CuisinArt, have now reopened, after the usual break, for the 2019/2020 season.
