On Saturday November 10th, 2019, a team from the University of West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla travelled to St. Maarten/St. Martin for their now annual outreach/networking visit. The group included Chair for the Guild of Students and UWI Student Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Ambassador Ms. Kemoloy Murphy, as well as Student Guild Executive members, Ms. Melissa Harrigan, Ms. Desha Carty and Ms. Tiffany Moore. They were accompanied by Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks.
The visiting team was joined by a number of UWI Alumni residing on St. Maarten/St. Martin at the Salt Ministries International Building and held interactive Meet and Greet sessions with the local UWI Open Campus students. They also held informative sessions with prospective students, including those planning to commence their studies in January of 2020. The Group also shared information on the University’s online programmes with residents on the streets and in business places.
Anguilla’s proximity to St. Martin/St. Maarten has allowed for an increasing number of students who reside on twin island to take advantage of the UWI’s online programmes through the Anguilla Site.
The UWI Open Campus team would like to express thanks to all those who helped to make the outreach initiative a success. Special thanks to Ms. Justina Bazil, the St. Maarten Representative on the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Guild of Students, Alumnus, Cornelius Marie and other Alumni for their support.
The UWI Open Campus is one of five campuses of the University of the West Indies. It is charged with “opening doors to life-changing learning wherever you are” and is currently accepting applications for Semester Two, which begins in January 2020.
