Sundays have in the past been very quiet at the AARF Shelter. Even with a staff member coming in to clean and feed shelter guests, there wasn’t much opportunity for interaction or playtime. Then AARF’s Education Chairperson, Johanna Pasila, working with medical student Karina Alba came up with the great idea of partnering the SJSM students, who were looking for ways to assist AARF, and the AARF shelter.
This idea has blossomed into an exciting time for the guests of the shelter but also for the medical students and their families who often are missing their own pets left at home while they continue their studies in Anguilla.
“Shelter Sundays” brings together the students, as well as sometimes their spouses and children and the shelter animals for some much needed socialization. Not only do the volunteers clean the kennels they also provide food, fresh water and most importantly cuddles, pets and belly rubs!
The Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) is extremely grateful to the “Shelter Sunday” crew for giving up their time to help AARF and Morlens Clinic.
If you are interested in volunteering with AARF please email aarfinfo@aarf.ai we always need volunteers and have many ways to help including our thrift store Second Chances, newspaper pickup and the shelter throughout the week.
