MINISTRY OF EDUCATION HOLDS ANNUAL REVIEW OF THE EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT PLAN (EDP) AND LOOKS FORWARD TO THE NEXT FIVE YEARS

Participants from the Ministry and Department of Education

Senior Officials within the Education Sector met on Monday, October 14th 2019, at the Teachers’ Resource Centre Auditorium, to review progress over the last year on achieving goals set for the Education Sector for the period 2015 to 2020. Teams of officers, each representing the various levels, presented on the expected major outcomes, minor outcomes, strategies and key performance indicators as laid out in the EDP 2015 to 2020 document. The intention was to review the extent to which targets had been met, and to determine what initiatives needed to be taken forward into the new Education Development Plan for 2020 to 2025.

Ministerial Assistant, Mrs. Evalie Bradley, began the day’s activities by inviting spiritual guidance. Education Minister, Mrs. Cora Richardson Hodge, provided welcome remarks and encouragement to all the participants, while Permanent Secretary, Chanelle Petty Barrett, provided Ministerial Updates to bring everyone up to date on the new developments within the education sector under the Education Sector Redevelopment Project. Education Services Planner, Mrs. Dawn Reid, then provided an overview of the approach to be taken during the review exercise.
Presenting on progress in the Pre-Primary and Primary Sector were Mrs. Susan Smith, Education Officer Primary and Pre-Primary; Ms Sandra Fahie, Education Officer Curriculum; and Mr. Bren Romney, Chief Education Officer. Principal of the ALHCS, Mrs. Rita Celestine Carty, and Education Officer Assessment, Ms Colleen Hosford were then called on to report on progress at the Secondary Level.
TVET Coordinator, Mr. Feliciano James and President of the Anguilla Community College, Dr. Karl Dawson, reviewed accomplishments to date in the area of TVET and the new BTEC certification.

The last section in the EDP 2015-2020, Central Administration, was presented by Mr. Bren Romney, Chief Education Officer.

The day’s activities ended with a summary of a number of stakeholder engagements held over the last five months and review of the emerging priorities for the Education Sector for the next Education Development Plan for Anguilla for the period 2020 to 2025. This session was led by Education Services Planner, Mrs. Dawn Reid.
