The Elected Representative for Road South, Mr. Curtis Richardson, has opened a constituency office together with a community hall conveniently located in Blowing Point where he, his parents and siblings once resided.
Both “The Senator’s Office”, as he prefers to call it, and the community hall, are located on the first floor of the building marked “Curtis Love”. The second floor, which is still to be completed, is reserved for private sector business operations.
The opening ceremony, on Thursday evening, October 17, was chaired by Mrs. Venetta Connor-Webster, a member of the Blowing Point Community Group. The event was attended by Minister Richardson’s family members, a number of his construction workers, constituents and friends. The Prayer of Blessing and Dedication was delivered by Pastor Iton Connor of the Christian Fellowship Church in Blowing Point.
In addressing the gathering, the Minister Richardson said in part: “My family and I grew up here in Blowing Point, as many of you know, and we were, what I
call, ‘the bush path people’ because we lived in the back. So for me to be here at [the road side] is a very wonderful opportunity that God allowed me to have. I knew it was a God-given opportunity because it was something that I did not pursue. It fell completely in my lap and I considered the fact that, as the Elected Representative for the community, I wanted somewhere that was visible and was easy for the community to come to me. And I was very happy that God gave me the wisdom and the guidance to have the building done.
“The upstairs is not completed but I wanted it to look decent and proper as a representative office for the community. So I did my best to close up that section and, at a later date, I will deal with it. The part that really concerns us, as community, is the downstairs area which I set out to do. As can you see, the design of this section of the building is really for the community and it is a very open setting.”
He took the opportunity to thank a number of persons who worked with him, as well as business places which provided building materials, and neighbours – for their cooperation.
He thought that his Senator’s Office was something to celebrate and provided a party-like atmosphere with appropriate music and refreshments.
