With 2020 on the horizon, the Anguilla Country Conference 2019 slated for 23-25th October is expected to generate much discussion as it focuses on a number of critical national, regional and international issues. Under the theme “Communities at Crossroads: Change the Thinking, Change the Future”, the Conference has attracted a wide-cross section of researchers whose presentations will cover a range of topics including, Caribbean Identity, Culture and Development, Education, Self-Determination, Brexit, the Environment, Media, Deviance, Gender and Youth in the context of national development.
The Conference will take place at La Vue in South Hill. It is free and open to the public and will begin with an Opening Ceremony/Reception on the evening of 23rd October at 7:00 p.m. with a keynote address by Mrs. Janine Edwards. The Conference will continue with the presentation of the papers during six panel sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday 24th and Friday, 25th October. A number of youth, community leaders and representatives as well as members of the general public are expected to be in attendance and each session will provide an opportunity for the audience to pose questions and/or provide comments.
The Country Conference is an initiative of the UWI Open Campus and the conference series and subsequent publications are designed to stimulate and highlight research on the host country. Anguilla last held a Country Conference in 2017 as part of the activities marking the 50th Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution and the UWI Open Campus Anguilla is hosting the 2019 Conference in collaboration with a number of local organisations, including the Anguilla Community College, the Anguilla Library Service, the Department of Youth and Culture, The Ministry of Finance, The Anguilla National Youth Council, The Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Social Security Board.
