Preparations are underway for the University of the West Indies-sponsored Country Conference in Anguilla from October 23-25.
Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, who is intimately involved in the arrangements for the event, spoke on the matter on Monday, September 30 with media representatives.
“The theme for the conference is ‘Communities at Crossroads: Change the Thinking, Change the Future,’” she stated. “We will have international as well as regional and local researchers who will be presenting about seventeen papers over the course of the two days. In particular, some of our local researchers will focus on youth.
“The aim of the Country Conference by the University of the West Indies, and the Open Campus in particular, is to generate the research so that we have concrete evidence about what the young people are interested in; why are the young men not looking to go into tertiary education – or what it is that they are seeking. That will be some of the research that is going to be presented at the Anguilla Country Conference.”
The opening ceremony will be held at La Vue on October 23 when Mrs. Janine Edwards, of Sunset Homes, will deliver the keynote address on the above theme of the conference. The presentations on October 24 and 25 will be open to all members of the public who are being encouraged to be active participants.
