There is a general sense of appreciation in the Anguillian community for the immediate start of reconstruction and expansion work on the Orealia Kelly Primary School at Stoney Ground.
The contract was awarded, through the procurement and bidding systems, to Mr. Vincent Proctor of Proctor’s Construction by the Governor’s Office.
The work entails a two-storey building of eight classrooms in the first phase – and additional phased construction later on. It is understood that entire project involves an expenditure of one million dollars.
After The Valley Primary School, the Orealia Kelly School is the second largest of the six Government primary schools on the island, with electoral districts three and four having the greater population settlements.
Under the Anguilla Programme, construction work is to be undertaken on other school buildings by several selected local contractors. The projects are the expansion of the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School; The Valley Primary School; the new two-storey Morris Vanterpool School at East End; and the new Campus A complex for the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School in The Quarter area. This is the most costly of the school-building projects – accounting for an expenditure of some 32 million dollars alone.
